Final Exam

1. The man was pushed onto the train tracks with a train on the way, and people were not able to save him. They photographer says he took the photos to try and stop the train, and he was able to look at these probably because he might have seen many bad things and got used to it.

2. The photographer said he tried to stop the train by the flash of the camera.

3. I don't think he should have because it will look like he is just a stubborn photographer who only cares for himself. I think he should have kept trying to help him and actually call for help.

4. No. Like I said he should have called other people to help even if they are strangers.

5. I don't agree, because he could have had a family that seen that and think how rude and disgusting it is for no one to help. It could also get people to believe that everyone in the world is evil and doesn't care about someones life. It makes people lose trust and hope in others.

6. I would say stopping bad things form happening, because pictures can be powerful things and if you capture an image of a bad thing people will feel bad and want to stop or help the thing. I feel peoples lives are more important than a story on the news even if it is a powerful story. Would you want to watch something bad on the news or do want to see the bad thing stop on the news?

7. Most of the time yes because they can get closer to people or understand things in a better way. There is a small part that says no because some things can get a little messy which could cause threats and such.

8. It depends. If someones in trouble then they should help not report a story. That goes the same for an object getting damaged or an animal in distress. If a good thing is going on then they should let it go and report the happy things. If they try to make a sad story out of a good thing then they have a problem.

9. Well the photographer says he tried his best to save him. If you try your best then there is nothing more you can do, but in this situation so much more could have been done to help the man.

American Soldier Slideshow

1. The most powerful image in the slideshow was number 31, where Ian and his dad see each other again. My brother was in the Marines and I remember when I was little I went to the airport, so we can see him and take him home. I was really small so I only remember bits and pieces, but I remember how happy we all were to see him safe.

2.
At home in Denver: #1-9
At Basic Training: #10-50
In Iraq: #51-71
Back in Denver:#72-82

I think the Iraq photos were the most emotional, because you can see he holds onto some important things that mean a lot to him. Ian also had to move on to other things, and he most likely has his family in mind and the reasons he joined the army.

3. The images work as a story because they are snapshots of someones life, in chronological order. It shows how Ian went through the army. It showed how he struggled, but pulled through.

A. Present tense

B. The captions go into detail what was happening in that point in time. The pictures do show detail, but the captions explain it.

4.
Image 31: Ian is on the way to a mission and managed to make a quick pit stop to see his family. Ian hugs his dad after worrying for him for several months.

Image 59: Ian and his friend are hanging up christmas lights to get in the spirt.

Image 9: Ian takes an oath so he may serve the country and he can not betray his country. His mom watches in the back as Ian continues with his decision to join the army.

Portrait Shoot Plans

Who will I shoot:

I will plan on shooting my family members and myself possibly. I would like to shoot my niece Abby who is 2 years old, but I don't know if my sister is busy or not.

Where I will shoot:

I would like to shoot at my dads apartment complex or mine because at my dads there is an open area with lots of grass, and then it turns into tons of trees. At my place there are lots of cool trees and plants and it gives shade and a magical feeling I guess.

To make it successful:

To make my shots successful I will have to keep the rules of photography in mind and think of different fun ways to take photos. I don't want to take photos as a job, but make it fun like a hobby. I would also like to play with unfocused photos like in the tips I read.

Casual Portrait

I like this portrait because I like the lighting and how her hair looks like its flowing in the wind. I also like how she does not pay attention to the camera. I also like the background because you can see trees and a wooden post meaning she is outside.
I like this photo because of how she also does not look at the camera. I also like how she's indoors and the way she's looking as if she is deep in thought.

Photography Self Portrait

I like this one because I like how she is framed and looks like she is coming out of a wall. I like how the wallpaper has the leading lines effect and it points to the lady. I also like how the woman looks curious about something.
I like this portrait because of the lighting and how the girl looks like she doesn't care. She just stands there like its a normal day not caring and I like how she's holding the camera like she took the picture. (Which she could have I don't know though)

Environmental Portrait Photos

I like this one because I really like the background. Its dark and gives a small spooky feeling. I like the subtle lighting from the lamp at the top and how there is a guy in the doorway looking like he will come down the stairs.

I like this one because I like how she is not looking at the camera which makes the person wonder what she's looking at and can use imagination. I also like how there is no color but the image still pops.

Self Portraits and Portraits 1

Facts:

1. Play with eye contact.
2. Introduce a Prop
3. Take Unfocused Shots

Emotions to Photos

1. At first it was all happy and the photos of the couple were cute, but as you scroll along you see the woman gets sick and when you see the picture of them shaving her hair you know that she had cancer. It got sad really fast and this is something that people deal with everyday.

2. Photo express who, and what we are. We use photos to express emotions, show everyday life, or even getting a point across to someone. This quote means that these pictures are not just pictures they are a moment that were captured to show what happens in this situation.

3. Yes, because cancer runs in my family and I would like to get a point across that this happens everyday. People get sick with cancer everyday and have to suffer everyday from this. If more  people are aware of this they could learn to be healthy and some wisdom from these people.

4. I would want to say your not alone. I've been in your situation before and it's never good for this to happen. She is in a better place now and she is in no more pain. Things get better.

Abandon Theme Parks

1. I would want to go to Six Flags in New Orleans, because it looks more like a ghost town. I like creepy and weird feelings and New Orleans is a cool place to go. Because it looks like a ghost town it gives a spooky feeling and I love that. I also like how there are lots of trees and how nature kind of took over this land that buzzed with people, music, and games.

2.

3. My Apartment Complex (lots of trees and nature)
    Abandon schools
    Abandon hospitals
    Caves
    Dark forests
4.

5.  I think this would be fun because its empty and there is not much to get in your way of taking photos. I love creepy feelings that photos can give off or just creepy feelings in real life to so I think it would be a cool thing to do. I love horror movies and stories so if I could go to a place that looks like its from a scary movie or book I would have a blast.

6. So of course I would need a camera and I might take a tripod to make sure everything is still and streetlight. I would take snacks and water and the necessary things like that. The travel plans I would like to fly because I like flying in air planes, but I would also enjoy a road trip to places like this because I could find other things to take pictures of. The laws I need to keep in mind is breaking an entering because I don't want to break in or go into a restricted area. I also would like to avoid destroying things and try to not move anything and be respectful the the place.

Africa

1. I feel this guys passion in photography and animals it's like me and music. I also feel that he has a message to send out to the public about animals and their beauty.

3. This is my favorite because if gives a slight creepy feeling with the clouds and the filter. I also like this one because it reminds me of one of my favorite childhood movies, Lion King. The part were samba hangs from the dead tree in danger of a herd and it reminds my of the messages the movie gives off.

4. Leading Lines, and Rule of Thirds.

5. He uses the Pentax 6711 along with two fixed lenses and medium format black and white film. This is important because he wants to get close and personal with the animals. He wants a certain effect in the photo.

6.  The reason behind these photos is to support the animals and show their beauty. People know about poachers and don't do much about it so he uses these photos to spread awareness.

7.  He hopes that people will stop poaching and hurting animal because they do nothing wrong.

8. "There is also something deeply, emotionally stirring and affecting about the plains of Africa—those vast, green rolling plains punctuated by graphically perfect acacia trees under the huge skies."

Funny Old People

The three guys, Terry, Jerry, and Larry, are the monkeys hear no evil, say no evil, and see no evil, and as for lady, Mary, she is just wants to be herself and just doesn't care.
So being a photographer I like to take photos to brighten peoples day, so I came to this group of elders and told them to do what they want.
Back when people enjoyed the outside someone stumbled across these elders that had a good personality, and a Joshua, the photographer, just had to take a photo of the good time to brighten peoples day.

Harold is on the to the supermarket and took the nicest ride he had which was his power chair, not his fancy Road Runner no it would get scratched.
Harold was a good man who took risks like this, and succeeded in life by speeding on his power chair on the highway, what a great achievement.

Judith is an amazing guitar player she was in this huge amazing band that traveled the world and now she's stuck in this local nursing home with her best friend, the cuddly bear in the back, Billy.
As we all know Judith is famous world wide in a band called Loners For Life, and succeeded with many awards and an amazing hit song called Forever Alone.

Black and White Photographers 3

1. At first I wasn't to sure if I really liked it but the photos grew on me. I love how he captures the beauty of nature in just one small photo. His photos makes me want to go and adventure around the world and really take things in. Also when I read his quote on what his photos express it has a really deep meaning that I love.

2.  Photo 1:
I see a beautifully built bridge that connects a fantasy land filled with magic.
I smell the fresh moist air the water gives off.
I hear the water fall go with the rule of gravity splashing into a lake, pond, or river.
I taste salt from a salt water pool with fountains that the waterfall reminds me of.
I feel the moist air and cool water splashing on my skin.

     Photo 2:
I see flowers fragile as glass bloom in the spring time.
I smell the flowers sweet sent soon after is sprouted.
I hear the whistle of a cool wind blowing the leaves around.
I taste the sweetness of chocolate.
I feel the soft petals and the dirt that surrounds the beauty of blooming.

3. To get my photography out to the world I would first show and talk to my friends about my photos. I would also make accounts on social media so other people could view my photos.

Black and White Photographers 2

Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams was a photographer the focused on nature. He was born February 20th, 1902 and died April 22nd 1984. He went to Harvard and Yale Universities and started photography at a young age after he considered music. He thought that both music and photography will inspire and help people find beauty in life and themselves. Ansel later joined the Sierra Club and got hired as a summer caretaker in Yosemite valley. He became very ill at one point, but recovered to resume his love for the outdoors, music, and photography. He has made books and won many awards for his photography that has a special message.

Photo Mural Questions

1. A theme that I would like to see is music, and art. They both relate to people in one way or another, and it will spread other peoples point of view in things. It also stretches our imagination and thinking of things.

2. I think it should be open to any camera so people can use their preferred camera. Also if their phone is broken or glitches it would be helpful to have other cameras handy.

3. I would say somewhere in the fine arts hall because a lot of people go there for lunch, gym, and other electives.

My Comment- Academic Shoot

http://jamiesphotojournalism.blogspot.com

Academic Shoot Reflection and Critique

1. I thought the hardest part was finding and executing each rule especially framing.

2. The thing I thought about the most was focus and how to make the photo interesting.

3. I would try to get closer to people no matter how awkward it is, because I feel a lot of my photos
looked very distant.

4. I would try to keep the framing where a door way frames the subject, and keep the balance photo.

5. Rule of Thirds and Simplicity

6. Merge and Framing

7. I think they are all clear just not very easy to execute and take a really good photo people will love.

Academic Photos

Framing
1. I think I did good on framing because the side walls are focusing on the girl doing her work.
2. The subject it a girl working on a project in the hall.
3. Yes, because she is the only person/ thing in the photo and stands out.
4. I could have tried to hold the camera a little more steady for a straight drama around the girl.
Balance
1. I think I did well because the photo looks balanced.
2. The subject is all of the students doing class work from a magazine article.
3. Yes, because because all of the students are doing the assignment.
4. I could have gotten a bit closer and include more details in the photo.
Rule of Thirds
1. I feel I did ok because the subject is off center making the background look bigger.
2. The subject is the two guys working on a group assignment.
3. Yes because of their shirts, and how they are closer to the center making them look like the main subject.
4. I could have gotten a bit closer because the photo looks very distant.

Simplicity
1. I feel I did well on this one because its simple and I like the books making the background.
2. The subject is the two kids inside studying.
3. Yes because the people are in center.
4. I could have tried to make the camera focus on the students even though it was hard.

Leading Lines
1. I think I did ok on this one because its obvious that the rails lead to the two students working.
2. The subject is the two students doing independent work.
3. Yes because of the leading lines.
4. I could have tried getting closer because it does look distant.

Unusual and Interesting Photos Part 1

1. My first reaction was that it was cool, interesting and different. The guy did a cool effect with the landmarks and it paid off.

2. I think he made them with Photoshop.

3. The other buildings that I have in mind is the Capitol and the Frost bank down town. The Statue of Liberty would also look cool.

Photo Shoot Overlook

1. You can find these types of photos in a science class, clubs, elective classes.

2. Orchestra, Algebra, ELA, DIM.

3. Find cool angles, use the rule of thirds, and get good lighting. Also have the students/teachers not pay attention to the camera, and act natural. Not to mention to be creative with an open mind.

Favorite Academic Photo

My favorite photo was called "Drop the Bass". The photo had a girl with protecting glasses with a red rim with pink food coloring. She is dropping the food coloring on a black stereo lined in plastic with some food coloring on the thing. As the bass plays the food coloring pops up. The picture has the food coloring in the air as she drops another drop.

1. I picked this photo because I think it look the coolest and the funnest. It seemed more interesting than the others.

2. Some photography rules that show are balance and simplicity. It is simple because it's a normal girl doing a simple experiment and there is nothing that complicated about the photo. It is also balanced because there is an equal amount of food coloring being popped up.

Filling the Frame

I like this one for filling the frame because what the students are doing looks cool and fun. The thing on  the table looks cool when its lit up and I like how thats the only lighting.

Action and Emotion

This is the best action/ emotion because the students are feeding the homeless which not a lot of people do. This will slowly but surely make a wonderful change in the world.

The Story

I think that this has the best story because they are honoring their lost ones from their lives. They all joined together to do this which not a lot of people do.

Shoot Reflection

1. The challenge for me was thinking what those words make me picture and then executing it. Like on "Square" I thought of a square or a circle and it was hard to find a square or a circle in the school.

2. I thought on the focus and rule of thirds the most. I wanted the pictures to look cool, relaxed and clear.

3. What I want to do different is change the bowie and happy photo. I had different things I wanted to shoot and use but either the photo didn't come out right or I could not find what I wanted to shoot.

4. I would still shoot the "square" photo because it was one of the only square things I found and the picture came out really good. I also like the locker photo even though there are millions of other photos just like that.

Photo Ethics

Least Unethical: I don't think this one is as bad because it isn't offending anyone personally. I think it offends the landscape and camel more than anyone else. It is not directed toward a certain group of people.

Most Unethical: I think this is the most unethical because it is two photo in one that made the soldier look like he is yelling at the man with a child. The soldier could have been talking to all of the people or even helping them.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

The main point in the story was that manipulating photos can be really bad in different ways. When your editing photos you can't change to much or else its not a photo anymore, and you can change the photo that may offend people. Photoshop is the software most people use to edit, and sometimes they edit it for the bad and change things. When this this happens it can offend people or lead to a false statement.

Majorly changing a photo by moving the pixels or something is not right because then the photo isn't as original as it was. It can also offend people in a way if a someone manipulated a photo from a tragic or historic event.

Composition 9/11

Merge
This is a Merge photo because in the background there is a lamp post or something that looks like it is connecting the lady and fire mans heads.

Lines
This is leading lines because the lines lead to debris from the attack. It also leads to the smoke created in the air.

Rule of Thirds
This is rule of thirds because the firemen are to the right and are the subject of the photo.

Framing
This is framing because the fireman on the ladder is in the middle of a hole in a wall. This creates a cool frame affect.

Balance
This is balance because the buildings are balanced through out the photo. No side has to many buildings.
Simplicity
This is simplicity because its just a piece of a plane on the ground. There is nothing really special about the photo.

National Geographic

I like this photo because its dark and gives this kind of scary feeling. I like more creepy kind of photos and cool storm photos like this. I also like seeing the stars up top because it can show how are beautiful world can be scary and threatening.
I would love to take photos of the rain, but its hard because it rarely rains here. Along with the rain I would also want to take photos of storm clouds and lightning. I want to take photos like one of my family members does because its a cool way to express people and yourself. I am also interested in taking photos of almost anything music related because music is my passion.

Touching People

1. I think this project is interesting. It could really bring people together or let us meet new people. It also shows how humans can be very uncomfortable with each other when really we are all the same inside.
2. I would be shy and say no but I think this project is cool and I would want to participate. It may be awkward but we just have to move past that. Its not awkward unless you make it awkward, and I need to be less shy. I think it would be cool to do.
3. I was in a photo shoot one time where I could wear goofy hats I have and be my weird self. I think it would be cool if there was a photo shoot like this one, but we got to wear clothes that represent us.
4. I like the photos and they are good, but they are not the kind of photos I could admire for hours.

Top 40 Photos

I picked this photo because I feel bad for the small child. My brother was in the marines and I don't know what or how to take the news that my big brother died. (He is safe and living in Houston now). The way the light is really makes the photo look cool but I just like the story more that the photo. I think this photo made it to the top because the way it was taken and it is also a sad story which people somewhat like. Photographer: Aaron Thompson

I chose this photo because I remember being at the airport waiting for my brother to come home and being so happy to see him. I can relate to this photo and I love to see families get reunited. I like the photos lighting and how its just focused on the mother and daughter. I think the photo made it to the top because of the way it was taken and people like sweet stories and want people to reunite with family that might be fighting for out country. Photographer: couldn't find

I chose this photo because I think it adorable and I support same sex marriages. I think people should be with who make them happy. I just think everything about this photo is perfect. I think it made it to the top because its sweet and it supports a good cause. Photographer: Stan Honda

1. I think it is uneque different and cool. You don't see that everyday and its just interesting.
2. No, I understood that it was upside-down faces that are way cool.
3. I would want to do a thing like this because its different and fin. It would get ones name out because of how creative it is.

The Camera

1. Inside a dark room a tiny hole in a wall must be created. The light gets focused and then you can see a upside image on a wall.

2. Christian Huygens and Isaac Newton knew a lot about optics and how to make high quality lenses. The lenses then were used in a camera to make a more modern camera.

3. The part that made the modern camera "modern" was film. The film was used and created the first successful photograph in the 19th century. So then what you needed for a modern camera was a dark box, glass lens, and film.

4. Niepce's camera works just like digital cameras we have today. Light passes through the lens and onto the film which then creates the photograph.

5. In digital cameras the photo is captured in a electronic sensor called CCD and then stored in computer memory in the camera.

6. On auto mode the flash and exposure are automatically set. On program you can control them yourself so once you have it the way you want it just point and shoot.

7. Portrait mode is used to focus on only one thing, so once its focused on one thing the background gets blurred out.

8. Sports mode is used to take photos of moving things. The camera will use the fastest shutter speed it can.

9. Half press is used for focusing. You should use this so your picture is clear and focussed.

10. The symbol means that the flash is off and so it won't flash while taking the photo. You would use the no flash when its really bright outside or if you create your own lighting.

11. The symbol means that the flash will go off automatically if the camera thinks its too dark. You could use this when you think you might have enough lighting but not sure, or if its really dark where your shooting photos at.

12. When there is too much light the photo will be washed out and look faded.

13. The photo will be dark and so then it will be hard to see what you took a photo of.

14. A stop represents the change in lighting.

15. The new planet is 1 stop brighter.

16. The new planet would be 2 stops brighter.

17. The longer shutter speed has more light.

18. The shorter shutter speed has less light.

19. The aperture controls how much light gets in. It works similar to a pupil in an eye.

20. You can adjust the amount of light by setting the aperture opening to F-stop.
